Time...

Wow...the end of August. I'm already thinking about Christmas.

This year is going by too quickly. Lola started pre-school. As Amanda conveyed her nervousness of leaving Lola in the care of others for the first time, I couldn't help but think about my first day of school.

We didn't have preschool then. I had just turned five. My older brother and sister were already in school and they rode the bus. I am the youngest so I'm sure my mom was excited about this day as much as I was. I wore black patten leather shoes, a pretty blue dress and big white sunglasses. There were pictures being taken as I stood on the first step of the bus. I don't remember the bus ride (must not have been as exciting as I had imagined)...but I do remember my teacher, Mrs. Dawson. She was a tall gray haired lady who spoke softly. We knew we had to listen to her because if we didn't we would be in trouble when we got home. I don't remember anyone crying or being upset that they had to be there. I loved my new desk, and as I sat there looking at the alphabet on the wall in the front of the class, it made me feel like such a big girl. I was in school!

My new friends were nice and we were excited to go to the playground. It was the best playground ever. I loved the wooden hula hoops and the monkey bars and the see saw. I remember standing there on a beautiful sunny day hula hooping for the longest time.

My first day was fun and my days that followed were happy memories for me...except the time in 3rd grade when I accidentally wet my pants and blamed it on my backpack (that's another story).

As each generation before us has said, "Times are different now" (can you imagine everyone attending school in one little school house as my grandparents had?). So as I smile and try to explain to my daughter that "she" will be fine...just give it time...I know that her experiences will be so different from mine.

I hope you all are having a Wonderful Wednesday with no complaints. Time makes a difference...

Jeanette

P.S. To all of you who have children, grandchildren, friends, etc., who are starting school (from preschool to College), I'm wishing you all good luck, good times and good memories!
