Memories of my father...
Today is my father’s birthday.
He passed away when I was 25…he was only 49.
My memories of him are few.
I wish I had more.
He was a gentleman...hard working...kind...honest...ethical...and compassionate.
He was a man of few words...but when he spoke...you listened.
He sometimes smoked a pipe in the winter...he smoked cherry flavored tobacco...I used to think it smelled good.
I remember sitting on his lap one winter...I wanted to feel the warmth of the pipe so he cupped his hand around it and touched my leg.
His grin was mischievous at times...and his eyes would twinkle.
He was a commercial fisherman so he was away a lot.
He was a Captain..."Captain Harry."
He wanted the best for his family.
He loved Reese’s peanut butter cups, ice cream and drinking iced cold water out of a pewter mug.
I looked up to him.
His time with us was too short.
He was a good dad...and would have been an even better grandfather.
When I think of him I don't get sad...I am grateful...grateful for having him...even if it was for a short time.
Wishing you all a Wonderful Wednesday. It's never too late to make an impression...a memory to last a lifetime Makes a Difference!
