Life is a Marathon…
I ran my first 5k on September 11th. It wasn’t easy, but I did it, needless to say, I felt good. So, my daughter calls me yesterday and I tell her that I have signed up to run/walk another 5k…then she says, “Well actually that’s why I called…I want to give you a challenge… Run a half marathon with me when I come home for the holidays.” Of course I say, “Game on” not realizing that a half marathon is 13.1 miles. She says, “We can map out our own course.” She’s serious…so I guess I better be too…I think it will be fun…her and I…running/walking/talking/laughing/hopefully not crying…I will enjoy the gift of this memory. This gift reminded me of a poem my son gave me one year for Christmas…it goes like this: For mom and dad and those of us who aren’t too sure sometimes: For life is a Marathon At the end we are spent, broken and years old And He is there to catch us as our legs give out at the finish line To rejuvenate us and raise us As is in the Marathon There are times we want to give up It hurts too much to continue And the path only seems to be more broken and uphill You can’t look back on the path The Marathon is too long Looking back deprives you of seeing the glorious Finish The sweet Lord has paid for us to live and not have to turn our heads In the blood of His own son He paid Do not regret a step taken or a detour explored Instead learn and show faith in Him Keep looking forward on the course This Marathon is too long Then He comes in and breathes a cool breeze upon our face Showers us with His tears For He feels our pain as well Only faith can bring us through Christ lays his hand upon you Peace and love course your veins Strength, from a well that was thought to be dry Is now overflowing and teeming The Marathon doesn’t seem so tough anymore Even though you have hit the wall You somehow are making it through the toughest part of the course Blind but not lost Stumbling but not falling Hurt but not dead Thirsty but not dehydrated Happy but not sad Rejoicing but not losing the faith Walking His walk but not falling to temptation Loving Him but not turning your back on Him For even though He tests us It is not a test we cannot pass For he has provided us with the answers Written in 2 testaments in Christ’s blood, for us to live Do not give up on Him Run the Marathon and carry the torch of Life in your hands He is there Love your enemies Give yourself to everyone and ask of no one Keep running the hill that has no end He is there Happy Wonderful Wednesday – No Complaints! Life is a Marathon…take the challenge…give…love…laugh…live…Make a Difference! |
